A rigid wing hang glider with definite superiority in concept
and performance. Even with the flaps full down yawing and
swaying is impossible. At high speed it has fine coordinated steering
by means of spoilers. The large steering and landing flaps work
by increasing lift in flight as well as by increasing drag during
landing approach (decreasing the glide ratio to 5 to 1). The min
sink of 0.7 m/sec is unbeatable by any type of foot launched flying
machine.
Highlights:
1. Packing dimension of 5.85m plus a light weight of 33.5kg
(official DHV value) is possible, which makes this wing appropriate
for an every day use without limitations.
2. Assembly time is lower than by other rigid wing standards.
3. Efficient construction method with help from solutions
that have been tested in the aviation and space flight fields.
4. All certification tests(DHV) have been successfully
completed.
Assembly: With the use of rib fixing levers, permanent
flaps and spoilers, the easy sail folding and packing guarantees
a very fast assembly and disassembly.
Finishing Concepts and Quality Assurance: More than 90%
carbon fiber will be used during production. The tapered and twisted
carbon D-spars are finished according to the most modern aviation
standards. The sandwich construction contains high quality honeycomb
and foam as protection materials. Measurement of the elongation
of the various components confirms an optimised strength to weight
structure. Strength that guarantees a load up to one ton.

Avain Rio
The new Rio hang glider is the latest sports glider from
Avian. It is one of the most versatile hang gliders ever
built. With the Rio you can fly however you want, wherever
you want, safely and in style.
Avian: Widely recognised as the UK's leading hang
glider manufacturer, we are world renowned for our leading
edhe engineering, attention to detail an quality.
Design: The Rio is designed as a sports glider to
appeal to all pilots. The Rio is light and easy to carry,
very easy to take off and land and versatile enough to be
flown in all types of flying. ie. hill soaring, cross country,
towing, aerotowing, powered flight.
|
 |
Versatility: The Rio can be easily hill soared and has
the performance for good cross country flights. It has the speed
range to be aerotowed behind a trike which most beginner's gliders
just cant do. It has the extra strength required to carry the
extra load of a small engine and propeller.
Airframe: The airframe is part of the secret of the Rio.
Using the latest 7075 tubing to give strength, lighness and stiffness,
the Rio airframe is extremely strong and light. The stiffness also
helps retain performance at speed. The aerofoil kingpost reduces
drag and looks superb. You can aslo choose stylish rubber backed
uprights identical to those used on competition hang gliders (with
no tools required to replace them). The glider uses high quality
injection moulds throughout including infinitely adjustable tips
to allow easy fine tuning. The attachment point of the rear rigging
and keel is designed such that if a power unit is used a very
large prop clearance is given with a very neat removable rear
keel.
Rigging: The Rio is quick and easy to rig. It will rig
flat or upright to suit all conditions and is designed with a
two to one pull back strop making tensioning the glider a doddle.
Airworthiness: The glider has passed the latest stringent
BHPA airworthiness safety standards.
Short pack for travel abroad:The Rio is designed to short pack
easily for travel abroad. It packs shorter than most gliders so
there should be no problems with airlines refusing to take your
Rio.
Sail Design: The Rio has a special aerofoil section and
55%double surface giving much lower drag and better performance
than a single surface wing - a wing that can dliver extra speed
for performance whilst retaining a low stall speed with superb
take off and landing characteristics.

Aeros Target
We are also dealers for the excellent Target hang glider.
This is the only glider that packs down to the size of a set of
skis!
Taking this glider abroad in aircraft holds presents no problems.
The Target is designed as a 'floater' with an excellent sink rate
and is ideal for light wind conditions as well as stronger wind
days.
